Macheist3 has come to a close

MacHeist3 was a lot of fun and gave away a BUNCH of software but sadly, it came to a close today after raising $85,000 for charity and saving you over $50 Million.  Twas fun but twill come again next year.

The admin of the Hakstore is...

So recently Appulo.us has shut down there services unless you can answer the question and cross the "troll bridge."  The question is "Who is the admin of the Hakstore?"  And the answer is (drumroll please...)

Labrat

Spelled just like that: Capital L-a-b-r-a-t

Apple Advertising with Google on YouTube

"That's it I'm going in!" ... "One down, thousands and thousands to go"

A very funny commercial that raises some good points.  Today, Macs are selling as fast if not faster than PCs.  Microsoft tries to fight back but they haven't had any luck yet, now even Google (which fights Apple in the cell phone and software market) is embracing the truth.  

JellyCar 2 has been Released... by DISNEY!?!?!

Here is a link to a review of JellyCar 2 by my close friend.  The thing I noticed, however, is that JellyCar 2 is actually produced by Disney.  Seems like they are buying everything these days. :)

As MacHeist 2009 Nears, the EWS shows a meteor

As Macheist gets closer and closer so does this meteor!  Yesterday is was a star, twinkling in the distance and now, now it is actually recognizable  as some sort of space rock.  This shout make it a tad easier to find the coordinates than it was yesterday.  The clock below is counting down to November 5, 2009 at 1600 (pst) (Midnight gmt).

Orbit and PogoPlank? iPhone Perfection.

So before I got PogoPlank, I used Orbit. With about 200 apps, Orbit was the best thing to ever happen to me (IMO better than Categories). Then something better than both Orbit and Categories, PogoPlank, came out. I loved it, it had the functionality of Categories with the speed of springboard (actually faster than springboard). But I missed Orbit. I payed for it, it became a part of my life, and now I had to let it go.

Just today, however, I was reading tweets of @PogoPlank (to get an idea of what I can expect with 2.0) and a came across this tweet:
Could this mean they are planning on integrating Orbit into PogoPlank? I can't wait to find out!

The Best Terminal Command

Now you can watch the full Star Wars Episode IV movie right from terminal (ascii).  Sorry, no screenshot for this one.  However, I do have ascii art from the movie!

telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl

No sound but there is subtitles.

Best of all, because all of the frames are ascii, you can copy and paste them anywhere as text!

RipDev is shutting its doors :(

"GOOD BYE

It's been a great two years, but unfortunately, the time has come for Ripdev to close its doors. There are many reasons for this, most of which we probably will never disclose (unless we are forced to). The important thing is that due to circumstances we will likely be unable to support the titles we have created over the years further. They will be perfectly operatable on the firmware versions they were created for, and you will be able to download and use them — but they will no longer be supported and updated (except for i2Reader Pro that is not being developed by us and that will be kept in sync with its App Store version). We will, of course, transfer the licenses to the new devices — just email us. Our Cydia repository will be operational until at least next year, so be assured that the products you liked and paid for will be available for you to (re)install.

Icy, our lightweight DPKG installer, is now available in source form under MIT license. You're free to do whatever you want with it. It would be nice if someone picks up the project…

It was a honor to be in the iPhone jailbreak community, and we are proud that we have certainly made a ripple or two. Farewell!"

The Magic Number For Today? 709!

Battery apps are taking over the app store! For better or worse?

Today, I was looking through the iTunes App Store for some good utility apps. The 'Top Free' and 'Top Paid' sections had the same old stuff so I decided to check the 'Most Recent' section. Wow. Its like Apple suddenly decided that power management is a top priority. Here is what I saw:

Level 01
All Power Pro $1.99

BLUE WIND
Battery LED! FREE

BLUE WIND
Batter LED Pro $0.99

IntegraSoftHN - Carlos E. Hernánd...
Battery Stats 1.0 $0.99

Vignesh Badrinarayanan
BatteryWizard $0.99

All of which, yes, are battery apps. What's next? Well, I predict Apple will respond to this in a new firmware by lowering app restrictions even more and allowing things like: To-the-percent battery apps, status bar utilities, and springboard apps.

Yet another Moto X Mayhem Glitch

With this game, I can understand why you would fly off of the bike when you land softly on your back, or why the rider would mysteriously disappear, but this just has me mystified.  As you ride/crash, it looks like all your limbs are appropriately attached, until you crash on the Lost Island bridge, thats when the the craziness happens.  If you hit it just right with your arm (leg, etc...) on top and the rest of your body on the bottom, you will hang (more like float), invisibly attached to your missing limb.  Weird, huh?

Tired of the Cydia Store?

If you are like me, you probably got used to Installous but now you go onto Cydia and... wait... WHAT THE HECK IS THIS!?!?! I have to pay for Cydia apps too now!?! Well, say hello to the Installous for Cydia apps, Xsellize. Its not an app, but instead, a source.

This source is updated almost as soon as the paid app is updated to Cydia. Let me know what you think about this and/or if you need any help by commenting below!

Finally! New Apple Mouse, Magic Mouse

This came out of no where, it wasn't expected but it sure was needed. If you are like me and you have a Mighty Mouse, you have bashed it against a wall several times because of the malfunctioning trackball. So Apple and there infinite wisdom came up with a brilliant idea... get rid of the ball. And lets add something that made the iPhone so great, multitouch. Yes, that's right, a mouse with multitouch. Appropriately named Magic Mouse, this mouse lets you do everything you would with a MacBook (minus the Chinese character input). While at the same time keeping the great features of the Mighty Mouse (like the Exposé buttons on the side. Also new, a new profile. Thinner, slimmer, and some aluminum to match your iMac and keyboard. So here's my prediction on what's next: touchscreen keyboard. Why? I have no idea. Would it be cool? Totally! Maybe, this transition to touch is a sign... *cough* tablet *cough*.

Here are some pics taken by Apple:

Can't wait to get my hands on one of these!!!

Cydia Reorganizing after Jailbreaking with Blackra1n

This problem where Cydia says, "Reorganizing, Will automatically close when done" is caused by installing Cydia and Icy at the same time from the Blackra1n app, but it is easily fixed.

DO NOT UNINSTALL THE Blackra1n APP UNTIL YOU ARE SURE YOUR iPHONE OR iPOD IS WORKING PROPERLY

Simply download Rock from the Blackra1n app, and set up a Rock account (if you haven't already).

Search Rock for Cydia Installer.

Install (or re-install) Cydia.

Restart (not respring) your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Open Cydia, should work perfectly!

Sapiens, The Best Thing To Ever Happen To Mac OS X

Sapiens is the easiest and most convenient thing to ever happen to Mac OS X.  It is a circular dock that is activated by a couple simple circles of the mouse.  It then opens up allow ing you to open applications, now you're thinking, "So what, I have a dock!"  Well, Sapiens has an advanced AI that (in about 6 hours of regularly using your computer, you don't have to do anything!) actually predicts, accurately, what application you will open next!  It utilizes something called kinesthetic memory so you can quickly open it and start the app you are looking for without even thinking about it!  This app is clearly better than your dock, I can't even remember the last time I actually needed my dock, honestly!

Extremely easy to use!

Move your cursor in a circle about two times and the genius circle pops open!

Simply hover over and select your application, just like your dock!

Extremely intelligent!  Mine isn't even close to being at its full potential and it is making perfect predictions!

And then there were a bunch... plus iPhone!

Skitch, the best thing to ever happen to screenshots

For a while, when I wanted to take a screenshot, I used Grab. Grab had limited features, was horrible in tight spaces, and only saved in TIFF format. The only thing good about Grab was that it offered a timed shot (but only full screen). Then I discovered the keyboard shortcuts ⌃⌘3 and ⌃⌘4. I still use these shortcuts in some situations, they can save in .jpg if you have SuperDocker. Also, these shortcuts offer crosshairs and they highlight the screen in the area of the snapshot, much better than Grab. But now, I use the best screenshot tool ever created. Once you use this tool, you will never need another screenshot tool... ever. I'm talking about Skitch.

Skitch is the only screenshot capturing and sharing tool you will ever need. Skitch is also multifunctional. Not only can you take a screenshot, you can also draw on the screenshot you just captured, and one click share it with the world. Skitch also has one feature that surprised me, you can take a snapshot with your webcam, either built-in or connected, without leaving the application, and doodle on the snapshot! Why? I have no idea, but it sure is fun!

Skitch is extremely easy to use, it hides in your menu bar when not in use.
Just click it and you are brought straight to the application, no wait, no "Please Register" screens, just the application.

Now, notice the menus around the edges. On the left side are all of your drawing controls (From Top to Bottom): Select tool, Free Draw tool, Line Draw tool, Circle Draw tool, Rectangle Draw tool, Fill tool, Eraser tool, Text tool, Arrow Draw tool, Line Size Selector. On the right side you have your choice to take a screenshot (Snap), take a picture with your webcam, (Cam), select drawing colors (Color), and obviously Undo and Wipe/Clear.

Another great feature is that it allows you to select where and in what format you save the photo, in my case, .jpg on the desktop.

Taking screenshots with Skitch is very easy:

1) Figure out what you want to take a picture of.

2) Drag to select what you want to take a picture of.

3) Release to snap

4) Customize your screenshot!

Also, to finish up, here's one cool thing I just found out about today. Skitch actually automatically names the screenshot depending on what you take a picture of (i.e.desktop, safari, applications), and it's not vague, it actually looks at what takes up most of the photo and names it, try it for yourself!

Hope you liked this! Skitch is available for free here.
